‘Mystery’ man arrested in hit and run after officer was asked to look out for him

The Bournemouth police officer who reported what he called a’mystery man’ who was caught in a hit and run in Bournemouth – has been arrested himself.

Officer Mark Adams, 41, was in to aid a colleague at the Tesco superstore in Bournemouth yesterday when he was approached by a man who looked like the suspect wanted in connection with a hit and run.

The man was’mysteriously’ not wearing any shoes and was arrested for public order offences.

Officers said they were called to the Tesco on Weymouth Road after two vehicles were involved in a hit and run collision on Oct. 27.

PC Adams, 41, of Bournemouth had asked the public to be on the lookout for a man he described as being ‘tall, dark-haired, and wearing an Adidas-style tracksuit’.

The officer said the man had a distinctive tattoo on his left forearm.

Anxious members of the public came forward and offered their help to the police, but police said PC Adams’ colleague was dealing with the situation.

They said the shop was not without CCTV, which had captured the area before and after the collision.

It is understood police detained the man and carried out a search of the town centre for a weapon.

Yesterday, a constable from Bournemouth tweeted: ‘Can confirm @BournemouthPDCP have apprehended and searched a male in connection with a hit & run in Bournemouth today.

‘Thankfully no victims reported.’
